This keynote will share a comprehensive overview of Google's journey to a planet-scale deployment of LinuxBoot. We will discuss our broad-strokes deployments across a diverse and extensive hardware fleet, including Intel x86, AMD x86, and Arm servers, as well as switches, storage appliances, IPUs and more. Attendees will gain an unique perspective on the challenges and successes of implementing a unified boot solution at an unprecedented scale.
Our talk will highlight three core messages. First, LinuxBoot has been successfully deployed and is operating at planet scale, demonstrating its robustness and viability for even the most demanding infrastructure. Second, we will show how LinuxBoot, by leveraging the full power of a Linux kernel, can boot any operating system, providing a flexible and powerful solution that breaks traditional vendor lock-in. Finally, we will delve into the security benefits, showing how LinuxBoot is security-hardened by default, providing a critical layer of trust from the earliest stages of the boot process. This presentation offers an inside look at a transformative project that is redefining how we think about boot firmware in the cloud computing era.
